The Finishing Step for a Gel Manicure
A top coat is the final layer in a traditional gel polish system. It is applied after the color and creates the final finish of the manicure.
Depending on the formula, a top coat can provide a high-gloss, matte, or satin finish, add a tint, or create a decorative effect. It also helps protect the color coating from everyday mechanical wear and maintain the appearance of the manicure.
Choosing the right top coat allows you to complete the gel manicure and achieve the desired visual effect.
BIBLIOTEKA Top Coats: Which One Should You Choose?
The BIBLIOTEKA range includes different top coats for both professional and at-home use. The collection features classic clear and colored top coats, as well as products designed to create different finishing effects.
The right choice depends on the desired result. A clear glossy top coat enhances the gel polish color and provides shine, while colored top coats can add a tint or alter the appearance of the underlying color. Depending on the products available in the collection, matte, satin, and decorative finishes can provide additional options for nail designs.
Top coats can also differ in whether they leave a tacky inhibition layer after curing. Some formulas require this layer to be cleansed after the final cure.
No-wipe top coats do not leave a tacky layer that needs to be removed after curing.
How to Apply a Gel Top Coat Correctly
Apply the top coat after the final layer of gel polish has been properly cured.
Apply a thin, even layer over the entire nail surface. If recommended for the particular product and application technique, carefully seal the free edge of the nail.
Avoid getting uncured product on the skin or cuticles. If this happens, carefully remove it before curing.
Cure the top coat in a compatible UV/LED lamp for the time specified by the manufacturer. Do not arbitrarily shorten or extend the recommended curing time.
If the top coat leaves a tacky inhibition layer after curing, remove it with the appropriate cleanser once the final cure is complete. A no-wipe top coat does not require this additional step.
Clear, Colored, and Effect Top Coats
Different types of top coats allow you not only to complete a gel manicure but also to change its final appearance.
Clear top coats preserve the appearance of the underlying gel polish while providing the desired finish. Colored top coats can add a tint, modify the underlying shade, or be used to create different nail effects.
Top coats can also provide different finishes, ranging from high gloss to matte or satin effects. When choosing a product, consider not only its appearance but also its consistency, application properties, and compatibility with the other products in your gel system.
Complete Your Manicure with BIBLIOTEKA
A traditional three-step gel polish system consists of three main stages: base coat, gel polish color, and top coat.
At BIBLIOTEKA, you can choose from gel polishes in a variety of shades, as well as nail base coats for the first step of your manicure.
For consistent and predictable results, make sure the base coat, gel polish, and top coat are compatible and follow the manufacturer's instructions for application and curing.
If the shine or appearance of the manicure changes over time due to normal wear, a new layer of top coat should not automatically be applied over the existing manicure. The appropriate way to refresh the finish depends on the condition of the manicure and the specific product system being used.
